Easter Eggshell Garden

Let's make an Easter eggshell garden this spring! Next time you dye eggs for Easter, you can also use leftover dye for empty eggshells, and make a cute miniature eggshell garden that will bring spring colors to your home. A lovely crafting project for kids, too - we did this one with brown eggs a long time ago, and it turned out just adorable. Follow these simple steps, and you'll have an adorable Easter-themed mini garden in no time.

An eggshell mini garden is a great little creative project that you can do in spring. Let's start!

Easter Eggshell Garden

Supplies:

  • eggshells
  • egg dye
  • a spoonful of potting soil per eggshell
  • an eggshell holder (egg carton is a good solution!)
  • seeds
  • water

Begin by tapping lightly all the way around the narrower end of the egg about 1/3 down from the top, creating an opening in the shell. Carefully pull off shell “cap” and pour egg contents into bowl. Rinse the shell out with water.

Make a tiny drainage hole at the bottom (I used a pin) and place the eggshell into a holder (an egg carton is a zero-cost and easy solution).

Using egg dye, dye eggshells the same way you dye hard-boiled eggs. Place eggs on a few layers of tissue paper to dry. This way, you'll prevent spilling the egg dye onto the plate or counter.

Using a spoon, fill the shell with potting soil to just below the shell opening. Water it well.

Plant the seeds of your choice according to the directions on the seed package.

Place them onto a window sill or somewhere else with enough daylight. Take care the soil is moist all the time.

Eggshells provide the seeds with a safe and cute harbor to sprout.

    1. Hi, great that you ask, I totally forgot to mention. Those were rucola seeds. Totally easy to grow.
